Irritated

by Sammah on Jun.01, 2009, under Blog

Ever have an event that makes you not want to ever have anything to do with any form of art? Well that happened to me.

Today my film project for class was due, which I had been working on for almost a month. Many things happened which made it difficult. I am irrirated and royally pissed off at the things that went wrong. First thing was, I asked my best friend to be my Assistant Director almost a full month in advanced and he agreed. First thing he does is tell 2 of my actors the wrong date; second thing, he leaves town the weekend before the shoot for a spontaneous trip to another state. I thought I was livid then…The weekend before the project I tried for days to get a female voice actor but could not. The night before I got one of the actors to voice act in the intro.

If I hadn’t popped a blood vessel then, I got 2 hours of sleep and got to school extremely early to finish editing….after careful placement of sounds and graphics I finally deemed it finished.

Hours later when it is time to present, I volunteer after a few people go up. I Do notice that they try to get sound to work on a device that just doesn’t want to cooperate. Everytime a new person goes up they try it. Well when it was my turn, they had already had it up on the computer’s soundcard which nobody had a problem with but the Assistant to the instructor did. I watched everything he did and say him (possibly involuntarily) disconnect the power to my drive and reconnect it by a short in the cable. After that the instructor and assistant proceed to blame the fact that I had 15GB of files, some being AVI (which the program won’t even import) and the program froze. Now I don’t know about you but being in Information Technology for 8 years I F*cking know computers. Harddrives don’t like when you disconnect them while they’re being read. Well the program froze and they closed it out and said “we have to move on to another person, i’ll have to watch yours by myself…”

WHAT?! I DID THIS PROJECT KNOWING THAT IT WOULD BE PRESENTED IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE. I DESERVE THE SAME RIGHT AS THE OTHER STUDENTS TO HAVE MY VIDEO VIEWED BY THE CLASS. JUST BECAUSE YOUR ASSISTANT IS A F*CKUP DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO BYPASS ME. I would have even settled to go AFTER everyone.

I drove an hour home as livid as can be…All the stress, and late nights I worked on this film got me here. I don’t ever want to be artistic again. It just doesn’t seem to pay off for me. I thought about the hateful things I would say in a video blog but I don’t even want to go near a camera. All the dreams I had of creating movies and film don’t even matter to me. I no longer have the drive to participate in such activities. I also don’t care about many things anymore, so if you don’t see me as much, you’ll know why.

Multi-SLI

by Sammah on May.05, 2009, under Gaming, Technology

Alright guys, I got my ASUS SLI Motherboard back after I sent it in for repair. It was a unique problem to me, the IDE connector wasn’t detecting any IDE devices but thats beside the point.

After I got the motherboard back I was excited to put my Geforce 8600GT back into my computer, but this time with my Geforce 280. I set up the motherboard for SLI motherboard minus the bridge connector. I didn’t want to damage the cards and there is no actual documentation on how to setup the second card as a PhysX card. The only thing the SLI-Zone says is that it’s possible.

I was looking for SLI games to benchmark and came across a free game named Warmonger. After installing it I ran it without the PhysX card and ran it with fraps running and got an average of 8FPS. After exiting the game and enabling PhysX on the 8600GT via the Nvidia Console. After reopening the game, it was noticeable faster at the team selection screen and when the game loaded it ran much smoother. I clocked an average of 30FPS in-game. The clothes of fabric that were in the game floating also reacted to wind better with the PhysX card enabled than disabled. The particles on the screen moved a lot smoother as well.

Without PhysX:

With PhysX:

Cloth without PhysX:

Cloth With PhysX:

So my conclusion is that Multi-SLI is the way to go if you can’t spend a bunch of money on expensive cards. Of course 2 of the same cards would give you better performance, but since I can’t exactly spend a few hundred this works fine.

New Steam Update for Counter-Strike Source

by Sammah on Mar.26, 2009, under Gaming

Hey all your Counter-Strike fans, I came across this steam update which will take place come april of this year. Enjoy!

An update is available for Counter-Strike: Source. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. This update addresses requests for more realism in Counter-Strike: Source. The changes are as follows:

Features/Additions
• Doubled player speed when jumping. The effect to cumulative, so the more you jump, the faster you go.
• Cut price of AWP by 50%.
• Added akimbo Riot Shield to buy menu.
• Removed de_dust from mapcycle.

Realism Enhancements:

Knives:
Between rounds, it is suggested that you unsheath the weapon and repeatedly press the attack key to air it out as the leather now collects moisture and creates pits on the blade, making it less effective in the next round.

Shotguns:
1. Firing the shotgun without ammo loaded will now cause it to jam.
2. When the shotgun jams, press F2 to fill out form DA-1823-00/A12-H8.
3. You should then hear a scribbling sound. When it stops, press F3 to send the request to LIDM.
4. Failure to do paperwork before pressing F3 will result in the immediate return of the unrepaired shotgun.
5. The repairs can take 1-2 rounds for completion. During that time, you cannot purchase a replacement firearm and may only use your sidearm or knife.

Player Models:
Several models now feature eyewear. This is a completely cosmetic enhancement with the following exceptions:
• Part EP-7829-292-2 must be purchased and worn correctly at all times in order to see during the round.
• In between rounds, you may purchase and use part EC-2231-833-H34 to clean your EP-7829-292-2. Note: that this does not clean the eyewear itself!
• To clean the eyewear, you need to purchase and use the designated cleaner, EC-2231-233-H34, EC-2231-523-H34, or EC-2231-239-H34a respectively depending on your model’s eyewear. You can determine the part # of the correct cleaner by asking someone.

Machine and submachine guns:
• At least once every five rounds, press F1 to inspect the weapon:
• A musical cue indicates that the inspection has started. Now press F1 again repeatedly to clean and lubricate the weapon.
• Your Preventative Maintenance Status (either “cleaning” or “lubricating”) is determined by the speed with which you press the F1 key and will be displayed above your head.
• To accurately simulate real life maintenance mistakes, pressing F1 too quickly will lubricate either the bolt face or the trunnion block. Pressing F1 too slowly sprays lubricant directly into the buffer tube. All mistakes render the gun inoperable, though this may not become immediately apparent.
• Experiment with keypress timing to avoid (and discover!) other common maintenance errors.
• In order to balance the improved stopping power of a well-maintained weapon, the reloading process has been made much less reliable.
• When reloading, you should listen for two or three distinct clicks over a period of several seconds.
• If you hear one click or no clicks or more than two clicks, you’ve bent the link ejector chute and the gun will most likely explode on the next attempt to fire it, though it may not.

Call of Duty 4

by Sammah on Jan.16, 2009, under Gaming

This game was quite a game to play. Not many games catch my attention like this one does. When It came out I didn’t buy it for quite a while because I was busy playing Call of Duty 2. But once I rejoined my clan, they wanted to give me a division; and being in 2142 division, I was ready for a change.

I picked up the game for PC at a fair price and started to play and ended up loving the game. This game is quite a fun game for single and multiplayer. The ranking system was quite genius; compared to the Battlefield  ranking system , where one could be playing the game for weeks or even months without ranking up.

One of the main features this game had was the ability to customize your weapons, even though you couldn’t do it in game. There are mods which I’ve actually begun to like, such as the Zombie mod. This mod makes it so you aren’t fighting eachother but a team full of zombies with 6 rounds. Each round there are more zombies and you can pick up powerups and weapons lying around you, mainly because you will be running around and wasting ammo. At the end of each round you resupply and keep going; this is also the time to respawn if you died.

That being one of my favorite mods I’ll tell who which server I go to. It’s the EAS clan Zombie server; you can find them at www.easclan.org. I recommend them even though I’m not with them. Also if you’re on BlogTV, you may have come across someone named WarHawkVJ; he’s one of the admins of that server so be nice to him ;)

Call of Duty 4 for Xbox 360 is quite a different game. I’m actually not sure which one I like better, even though the PC version is so expandable. I mean, having a game which is on multiple consoles can cause disputes between friends, which was my main reason for waiting to buy it for the 360. Now the aiming system isn’t as percise as the pc version but you have to appreciate it for what it is….a console game. It is slightly slower paced but much more fun to play Search and Destroy on. I noticed I leveled on the pc a lot faster than on the 360 but thats probably because I’ve always been a PC gamer and console gaming is still quite new to me.

If you’re making a choice between what system to buy for think of this, Where are my friends playing. That will guarantee you having more fun because games aren’t that fun unless you know at least someone you’re playing with. Inside jokes and teamkilling doesn’t work with strangers.

If our paths cross, I’m Sammah on XBL and on PC you can reach me on Xfire : Sammah.

Until we game again

nVidia GeForce 280

by Sammah on Jan.14, 2009, under Technology

This is a work in progress but I just got the 280 to benchmark it and get some in-game video. The only thing I would recommend is to have more than 2GB of RAM. But while playing, you’ll notice that you can play games like Crysis on the highest settings and actually have it enjoyable. This depending on your resolution of course; I play at 1440×900 which is my native monitor resolution.

If you have a 1920xanything, you’ll probably notice the framerate to be lower than if you’re on a lower rate. I’ll post some actual benchmarks later on and some 3dMark logs. Also, my new video will have the framerate of each game as they’re being played. But keep in mind that the video recording software takes away about 15fps depending on which game it is.

Something else I would like to try is to SLI and eventually TRI-SLI to show you guys the benchmarks. Not many people have TRI-SLI’d and posted benchmarks so I think I’d like to try that out to show you guys the advantages of SLI and TRI-SLI.

If theres any game you would like to see framerates/footage for let me know and I’ll get that game to show you.

I’ll mess with that later though, Take care guys!

Left 4 Dead

by Sammah on Jan.14, 2009, under Gaming

L4D is probably one of the best games I’ve played in a while. It’s replay value is basically gaming with people online. You acn do many things and the game is dynamic. When you think you have a strategy in this game, it’s not like other games. The AI is created in different areas each time so theres no chance of the same thing happening twice.

There are many achievements to get in this game and most of them require teamwork. If you’re playing with the AI, getting acheivements may or may not be harder to get.

I recommend this game for anyone who enjoys shooters. Thanks for reading, guys.
